From June 25th to 27th, the 15th Summer Davos Forum was held in Dalian, Liaoning Province. With the theme of "New Frontiers of Future Growth," the forum attracted over 1,700 representatives from more than 100 countries and regions worldwide to discuss six major directions including "Global New Economy," "China and the World," "Entrepreneurial Spirit in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," "Frontiers of Industries," "Investing in People," and "Interconnections of Climate, Nature, and Energy.
Ms. Zhang Zhen, Executive Director of the China Electric Vehicle One Hundred People's Association Low Carbon Integration Development Research Institute and Director of Shandong Hydrogen Energy New Energy Technology Research Institute, was invited to attend the forum and shared insights in the two main forums on "Hydrogen Energy Development and Promotion Application" and "Energy Transformation Power: China's Roadmap".
At the "Hydrogen Development and Application Promotion" thematic forum, Zhang Zhen introduced the current status and challenges of China's hydrogen energy industry development. He discussed with guests on how different market participants play core roles in leading energy in China and accelerating the entire industry towards net zero emissions goals. Topics also included exploring the crucial role of cooperation between public and private sectors in creating a supportive environment for driving energy system transformation.
At the "Energy Transition Dynamics: China's Roadmap" thematic forum, Zhang Zhen and forum guests discussed key opportunities and challenges in China's energy transition. They explored how China can utilize its leadership in clean energy manufacturing and supply chains to support global energy transition, as well as how China can engage in energy cooperation with other countries at regional and global levels.
Zhang Zhen stated that hydrogen energy plays an irreplaceable role in China's realization of carbon neutrality goals, especially in the deep decarbonization of long-term, large-scale energy storage, industry, and transportation. China's development of hydrogen energy presents both opportunities and challenges. At the policy level, China has released the "Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-2035)" and actively promotes key demonstration projects such as the "Fuel Cell Vehicle Demonstration Cities Group" and "Hydrogen for All". In terms of technological innovation, Chinese companies focus on independent research and development of hydrogen energy technology and have achieved rapid iterations in hydrogen energy technology. In the market promotion aspect, China is the world's largest hydrogen vehicle market with the most hydrogen refueling stations and the highest electrolyzer shipments globally. However, the hydrogen energy industry in China still faces many challenges. The industrial chain and supply chain are currently not sufficiently mature and complete. To achieve large-scale promotion, it is necessary to strengthen infrastructure investment, continue to reduce the cost of equipment and hydrogen, actively engage in international cooperation, and build a more open, innovative, and sustainable ecosystem.
The "Annual Meeting of the New Champions" is a platform for "global growth companies" to collectively plan the future development of industry and commerce, engage in dialogue with the world's top 1000 companies, and interact with governments from various countries and regions. Complementing the annual World Economic Forum held in Davos at the beginning of each year, it is also known as the "Summer Davos Forum".
